What is Baptism?
Baptism is a public declaration of a believer’s faith in Jesus Christ and an act of obedience commanded by Scripture. It symbolizes the believer’s identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection and serves as a testimony of the new life found in Him. While baptism does not save, it is the biblical response of those who have trusted in Christ alone for salvation.
At Eastpoint, we baptize believers by immersion because we believe it most clearly reflects the pattern found in the New Testament. If you have recently placed your faith in Jesus or have questions about baptism, we would be honored to walk alongside you, answer your questions, and celebrate this important step of obedience with you.
Why Baptism Matters
Baptism is the first step of obedience for every believer after placing their faith in Jesus Christ. While it is not what saves us, it is the way Christians publicly identify with Christ and testify to the transforming work He has done in their lives. Through baptism, believers proclaim the gospel by identifying with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.
Because baptism is an act of obedience and a public declaration of faith, we encourage every believer to take this important next step in following Christ.
What We Believe About Baptism
BY IMMERSION
We baptize by immersion because it is the pattern modeled in the New Testament and best represents the believer’s identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.
A PUBLIC DECLARATION
Baptism is a public profession of faith that declares what Christ has done in a believer’s life. It is an outward expression of an inward transformation and a joyful testimony to the church and the world.
BAPTISM DOESN'T SAVE
Salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone, not through baptism. Baptism is an outward expression of the inward transformation that has already taken place through the gospel.
